About the Family & How We Started

In 1892, I.A. Zimmerer came from Kansas and settled in Lindsay, Cooke County, Texas. He brought with him his wife Hellena who bore him seven children, six sons – Bruno, Vincent, Henry, Leonard, Francis, Paul and one daughter, Dorothy.

Prior to World War II, Henry Zimmerer became a retail Case tractor dealer in Gainesville, Texas.  With the coming of World War II, leading to a shortage of tractors and equipment to sell, Henry went back to full time farming. After the war, Henry, Vincent and Bruno formed “Zimmerer Bros.” Comprised of three farms totaling approximately 1300 acres, they specialized in three main harvests: small grain, hay and beef cattle. The brothers took great pride in the quality of their hay. They even became the supplier of bedding straw and feed hay for the Fort Worth Stock Show!

Even though the Zimmerer farm went along with the trend toward larger and more efficiently operated farms, they kept their standards to a close-knit family type of farm, where they lived on the very land they worked. The three brothers’ partnership allowed the family to truly thrive, and they found themselves making aligned decisions at every turn. In one remarkable visit, after a cattleman made them an offer on some calves, the three went into a huddle. After a few minutes, they came out and announced that the family would sell after a majority rule. They realized that there was a lot of give and take in a business relationship, and they needed to work together and with their customers to find a great balance. Thus was formed the foundation for a family destined to be in the farm and equipment business, and Zimmerer Kubota & Equipment as we know it, today!
